From simple human machine interfaces (HMI) to dedicated computers handling and processing data from multiple analyser and sensor sources.

In its simplest sense, data can be presented via an instrument display or transmitted via a hard wire connection. Meaningfulness can then be derived by gathering data points together and presenting along with moving and historical time.  Statistical and averaging calculations form the basis of compliance reports which may need to be retrieved and presented on request. Trends, changes, upset conditions, need to be visible to operators in order to assist in decision making.
