Definition of business:
The supply and support of specialist instrumentation products, services and custom solutions with particular focus on environmental controls, emissions and process measurements.
Instrumentation specialists and solution providers with a focus on quality, customer support and value engineering.
Indications for the future:
Building strong, sustainable and yet flexible platforms for long term relationships that adapt and develop with the needs of our customers.
Focal-Point Technology is the vision of the two founding Directors, Graham Clark and Craig Day, and brings together 40 years of experience of bringing various types of measurement systems into service on many different processes. There is a strong understanding of customers' needs
Graham has over 28 years of relevant experience on which to call, for the benefit of Focal-Point customers. He brings to the table a rare blend of engineering and commercial expertise along with a detailed understanding of the emissions monitoring business. These skills, familiarity with current regulations and a detailed, logical approach to problem solving enable him to offer a first class service.
Originally trained by the Central Electricity Generating Board, Graham completed a full Instrumentation and Process Control, City & Guilds apprenticeship and subsequently a Higher National Certificate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He spent 13 years spent in the power industry including spells in power generation, power transmission and research and development at the Central Electricity Research Laboratories in Leatherhead. His time at C.E.R.L. was spent in the Environmental Physics Department where his real involvement in emissions monitoring began.
Following privatisation Graham left National Power and spent the next 15 years working for emissions monitoring equipment suppliers including Signal Instruments and LAND Instruments (now owned by Ametek). During this period he successfully completed roles in systems commissioning, project engineering, project management, service management and product management. His experiences encompass a wide range of industry sectors gained on a truly international stage with considerable time spent abroad.
His involvement has covered every aspect of emissions monitoring systems from specification, system design, installation, commissioning, trouble-shooting, calibration and validation. In addition he has represented customers and suppliers in negotiations with regulators. More recently he has represented the Source Testing Association on E.U. working groups associated with the EN 14181 standard. Graham owns and operates A-Plus Consulting Ltd which has grown into a respected independent supplier and innovator of environmental monitoring products and services.
Craig brings a background of chemical and environmentasl sciences along with 15 years sales, marketing and customer support directly from the process monitoring field. He graduated from Nottingham University with an honours degree in Chemistry, which he later added to with an MSc in Environmental Science. After posts with the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in London and PERA Technology in Melton Mowbray, he entered the instrumentation business as project sales engineer for CODEL International - working on prestigious projects for major international power station contractors and engineering contractors for road tunnel atmosphere monitoring projects.
He met Graham during their tenure at LAND Instruments International where a solid working relationship was developed - serving customers, re-sellers and agents alike with up-front direct assessment of a processes' requirements, and being there for tjhe required on-going support. More recently he built-up the UK sales and support network for M&C TechGroup GmbH of Germany. With the well renowned M&C product quality and attention to engineering detail, he learned an appreciation of finer art and importance of sampling and conditioning components and their role in enabling good, reliable analysis.
Experiences extend beyond Electrochemical, Infrared, Ultra-violet, FTIR spectroscopic techniques for gas analysis; triboelectric, optical density and light scattering for dust analysis; various gas flow meaasurements for total mass emissions reporting; data acqisition and reporting requirements; as well as environmental regulatory compliance.
Always wishing to maintain goodwill with customers, suppliers and previous employers alike, it is in that same spirit that Focal-Point Technology can now offer the sale and support of products from a number international manufacturers like LAND Instruments, M&C TechGroup, Goyen, Pentair, Unitronics, CODEL, ABB with a direct line of communication to key responsibles in these companies.
